The Death of Dead Space?

March 05, 2013 / by / 0 Comment

Dead Space 3 was a good game. As good as Two or the original without a doubt, the tight, dark corners, slow motion limb removing, and necromorph-stomping features of a franchise with deep roots in the horror action genre. Not good enough for EA however, who have cancelled the production of a fourth title, making this yet another example of Electronic Arts throttling a series to squeeze every last penny from the consumer. I mean, micro transitions in a single player?! It’s no wonder the game went through turbulence during development.

Tweet from Dead Space dev earlier today

The development of a fourth title seems to have been scrapped after the third installment in the series failed to secure the publisher’s five million unit benchmark, and coincides with layoffs at EA’s Los Angeles and Montreal studios. The producers have been quick to denounce claims but a cancellation is a pretty big deal… EA themselves have yet to comment. However, after the scrapping of a new Medal of Honor after Warfighter’s failure, this kind of activity does have precedents set. I just hope we hear better news as the story develops.
